This refers to A V Rajwade’s article ‘The politicians we deserve’, December 8. Indian masses are not as crooked as our politicians are! I appreciate the way Rajwade has spoken of the “divide and rule” game followed by our political establishments. The British divided us on the basis of religion (not dharma) — mainly Hindus and Muslims, even Aryan and Dravidian. Our politicians have gone a few steps further and have divided us on the basis of gender (33 per cent reservation in Parliament), caste (22 per cent reservation for SC/ST and 27 per cent reservation for OBC), language (state formation), water (fights over river water), location (rural and urban), class (rich and poor) and many more such attributes.
