In the article "Towers of Babel" (Et Cetera, August 11) the writer has concluded his piece with the former US Democrat Senator Evan Bayh's words that ring so true in the context of India's current political situation. "There is too much partisanship, and not enough progress - too much narrow ideology and not enough practical problem-solving. Even at a time of enormous challenge, the people's business is not being done," Bayh had said. After he said these words he quit his Senate seat, but none of our elected legislators has the courage to do so even if they feel disgusted with the prevailing situation.

While the positions of President, state governor, judge and Prime Minister have been maligned in the past, at least that of the speaker of the Lok Sabha and chairperson of the Rajya Sabha had retained their dignity. But after the watching the scenes in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday afternoon, I wish the helpless Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan, resigns in disgust.
