If a monk chooses to give up all physical attachments in a spiritual quest, why is there a demand to be given first right over politics? Isn't a monk supposed to be beyond attachments of power? If a group of people who claim greater closeness to God (read "as I pray, so I am God") are offended, should they not check the power of their faith? The question is whether their religiosity needs social acceptance? That such complaints are entertained in our courts itself appears to be a travesty of justice.
Politics and religion make an unholy, unhealthy combine that we as a people must learn to reject. When the party fails to function, it will use religion as a ruse to divert attention. We have seen it before but it seems we will not learn.
