How do lawyer-ministers in the previous United Progressive Alliance government occupy themselves these days? Several have got themselves briefs in high-profile cases. The latest to join the bandwagon is former Communications and Information Technology minister Kapil Sibal. He has been hired by real estate company Supertech to defend its case in the Supreme Court.
Supertech has been in trouble ever since the Allahabad High Court had ordered the demolition of two towers in Noida on a petition by the Residents' Welfare Association alleging violation of building norms. Supertech challenged the order in the Supreme Court but the case will be the focus of much attention since the case has encouraged many aggrieved buyers to stand up to developers and set the tone for rising consumer activism in the realty business.
