Trade rivalry over FDI

Foreign direct investment in retail has sharpened more than just political rivalries. Traders’ associations, too, are in competition to claim their due. Thus, the Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal (BUYM) was found complaining that the other association, Confederation of All India Traders (CIAT), hijacked its idea of holding a nationwide strike. “CIAT is running around claiming the Bharat Vyapar Bandh was their idea when we had planned this nationwide strike long ago,” the BUYM president was heard grumbling.
