If insurer does not provide redress, approach the ombudsman
- The address of the office of the ombudsman for your city is available in your policy document and also on the website of ECOI (www.ecoi.co.in)
- The ombudsman is a no-cost mechanism available to all insurance customers
- There is no fee and you don’t even need a lawyer
- After getting documents from both parties, the ombudsman calls both for a hearing, and then decides
- The ombudsman can award a claim if it has been rejected, but unlike a consumer court it cannot penalise the insurer
