Congress legislator and descendant of Rampur royal family, Nawab Kazim Ali, today alleged that Azam Khan was "out to finish" the remnants of the nawabs of Rampur by demanding demolition of two gates of century-old Rampur fort, and sought Governor B L Joshi's intervention.

In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, the Congress MLA from Swar said,"his (Azam's) father used to serve my (Kazim's) grandfather, the last nawab of Rampur".

"He does not like the reality of his past and so is possessed with the aim of finishing off all the remnants of the nawabs," Ali said.

Citing similar exercise being undertaken in Rampur, the home town of Azam Khan, Ali said that last month the minister had written a letter to the district magistrate of Rampur expressing his desire to get the two gates demolished on which further action has also been initiated.

The MLA has also submitted the copy of Azam's letter to the DM alongwith a memorandum written on November 22, 2013.

According to the letter, Azam has said,"since the gates are in a very dilapidated state and can lead to any mishap and since these gates are neither of any historical importance nor symbols of honour, an inspection should be conducted by the PWD and they be pulled down if required without delay."

The controversial minister has also said that the fort, "situated in the heart of the city, is spoiling Rampur's beauty by blocking sunlight".
