BJP makes clean sweep in Gujarat local body polls, wins 109 seats

Riding high on the Narendra Modi wave, BJP gets another reason to cheer; Congress bags 17 seats

In a clean sweep for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the local body polls in Gujarat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 109 of the 126 seats.

In Vapi Nagarpalika polls, BJP won 41 seats and Congress managed to win just three. In Surat-Kanakpur-Kansad nagarpalika polls, out of 28 seats, BJP emerged victorious in 27 seats and Congress barely managed to open its account.

Celebrations continue in the BJP camp as it is riding high on the Narendra Modi wave. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked people for their continued trust in the BJP and development politics.

He tweeted, "I salute people of Gujarat for continued trust in BJP. BJP's great win in local polls shows people's strong faith in development politics. Congratulations to BJP Gujarat Karyakartas, Vijay Rupani and Jitu Vaghani for their hardwork work across the state.

"Over the last few days we have seen the results of various polls, Parliamentary, Assembly & local polls across India. Be it the Northeast, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat; BJP has performed very well. I thank the people. These results across India illustrate that people want all-round progress of the nation and will not tolerate corruption and misgovernance," Modi tweeted.
