Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has expressed her strong protest against the Centre's decision to increase rail freight and passenger ticket price hike and demanded its withdrawal.

In a statement issued here, she said the latest price increase for the next six months will result in a burden of Rs 1,150 crore on the people.

It may be noted that the Centre has increased railway freight and passenger ticket prices by about two per cent on account of the increasing fuel cost.

The decision to increase railway charges once in every six months was also not acceptable, she added.
