Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshavardhan Patil said the session of the Upper House would be convened on May 8.
"Governor has given his consent. The one-day session will see election of new chairman, introduction of new members and election of new leader of the opposition," he said. Sources said that Congress leader Shivajirao Deshmukh, re-elected to the upper house in March, would be re-elected as the chairman. Vinod Tawde too is likely to continue as Leader of the Opposition as his party.
