The opposition parties in the state have geared up to corner the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in monsoon session of the assembly starting on Tuesday.

The issues identified by them to score over the government include deteriorating law and order situation, chit fund scam, rising incidents of violence against women etc.

Besides, the distress sale of paddy and deduction of 10 kg rice per family from the quota meant for BPL families, also figure in the agenda of the Congress, the principal opposition party in the state.

"The ruling BJD has failed to create adequate employment opportunities for youths even after thirteen years of remaining in power. The companies operating in the state are recruiting from outside the state ignoring the local youths. We will raise these issues in the assembly," Bhupinder Singh, Leader of Opposition in the assembly, told newspersons after the Congress legislature party meeting.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will demand for establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in western Odisha and will raise issues of Banapur hooch tragedy, sky rocketing of vegetable prices etc. "The members have adopted a resolution demanding setting up of a permanent bench of high court in western Odisha at the legislative party meeting. In addition, the worsening law and order situation also figures in our agenda," said Jaynarayan Mishra, BJP leader.

On the contrary, the ruling BJD is prepared to counter and deflect the Opposition offensive by raising the Centre's step motherly attitude towards Odisha in revision of mineral royalty and special category tag to the state and other topics like rising prices of essential commodities and loss to be borne by the state government on account of implementation of the food security bill, etc.
