Senior Congress leader and former union minister M. Veerappa Moily on Monday said that it was illogical for former Supreme Court judge and the current chairman of the Press Council of India, Justice Markandey Katju to raise the issue of corruption in the judiciary when he was no longer part of that system.
"What was the judiciary doing at that time? If (Justice) Katju was aware of any such thing and was really concerned about this, he should have raised his voice right then," said Moily.

Congress leader Rajeev Shukla endorsed Moily's view, saying, "This would have had more effect had (Justice) Katju brought this issue to light at the time it happened."
Katju has claimed that a district judge, who had several allegations of corruption against him, was not sacked and was elevated to the position of an additional judge of the Madras High Court, owing to the pressure put by a Tamil Nadu-based party on the UPA Gvernment and the judicial collegium.
