Reacting to a legal notice sent by former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), party spokesperson Ashutosh on Saturday said there was no question of his party apologising to Gadkari.

He said that Gadkari should rather ask the BJP to apologise because they were the first ones to label him a corrupt leader.

"There is no question of our party apologising to him. His party itself thought that he was corrupt, and hence, they did not give him a second term (as BJP president), and, that is when Rajnath Singh came in his place," said Ashutosh.

"He should ask the BJP to apologise instead of taking out his anger on the AAP. We are no one to certify someone as corrupt, but the public is, and, they are angry against prevailing corruption," he added.

Gadkari on Friday had sent a legal notice to the AAP and to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for calling him corrupt.

According to the notice, Kejriwal's remark against Gadkari was aimed at tarnishing his image and amounted to defamation.

The BJP leader has asked Kejriwal to apologise for his remark within three days. Kejriwal had mentioned Gadkari's name in his list of most corrupt politicians.

Gadkari has also threatened to sue Kejriwal if no apology is forthcoming.
