Condemning the terror attack in Jammu region, the CPI(M) today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to forcefully raise the issue during his meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York.

The Prime Minister "must forcefully raise this issue in his forthcoming meeting with the Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly," the CPI(M) Politburo said in a statement here.

It also sought urgent steps to correct the security lapses which allowed three heavily-armed terrorists to cross over and carry out the attack.

The fact that these terrorists "could cross the fenced and fortified border with ease and indiscriminately fire attacking a police station, travelling some distance to mount an attack on an army camp exposes the serious lacuna in our security apparatus. These need to be corrected with great urgency," the party said.
