Rahul Gandhi meets Panvhayat representatives on party manifesto

Addressing gathering at Wardha in Maharatshra, he strongly advocates "decentralization" of power empowering the grassroots at panchayat level

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today took his bid to involve “voices” from all sections of society a step further, taking feedback from Panchayat representatives and civil society in drafting the Congress manifesto. Gandhi in his interaction which was widely televised, stressed on a three pronged strategy to make India a “superpower.”  

Addressing the gathering at Wardha in Maharatshra, Gandhi strongly advocated “decentralization” of power empowering the grassroots at the panchayat level.

Prior to this Gandhi has already held interactions with Dalits, minorities, youth and women groups.

Elaborating how the party has already started implementing, decentralization in process of selection of candidates for Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi said, he has decided to select candidates for 15 Lok Sabha seats in consultation with representatives of local bodies, district and block-level workers "and their decision will be final".     

“This is a very big step and people will realise this later. We will continue taking such steps in the future, we will not stop," he said. Gandhi said the very purpose of the exercise launched by him was to involve the people in the decision-making process.

Hitting out the Narendra Modi without naming him, Gandhi said, that the “one man”’s ideas are not important. “I have some ideas, these are ideas of one individualUnless we ask women, the youth, what they want, the ideas of an individual have little meaning," he said.
