Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, speaking Thursday at a rally in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior city, said respecting people is more important than development.
"Respect is more important than development because you will not get development unless you get respect. The Madhya Pradesh government does not respect the people," he said.
Gandhi said the Oct 13 stampede in the state's Datia district took place because the government did not respect the people.
"I was told a similar incident occurred earlier at the same place. It means the government did not respect the people who died in 2006, and they do not respect the people who died here Sunday," he said.
He also said more youth should join politics.
"Development will come when you will reach assembly and the Lok Sabha," he said.
