Congress president Sonia Gandhi will Monday begin a two-day visit to her Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Gandhi would hold a series of meetings to galvanize party cadres ahead of Lok Sabha elections due by May, a Congress leader said. Uttar Pradesh sends the largest number of 80 MPs of the 543 elected members of parliament's lower house.

During a meeting scheduled Monday evening, Gandhi would deliberate with former party legislators, district functionaries and other leaders to discuss poll strategy.

Gandhi will meet locals Tuesday. She is likely to inspect various central government aided projects currently underway in Rae Bareli.
