The Election Commission said that issue of notifications will be on January 14, while the last date of submitting nominations will be January 27. The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be January 30.
Polling date is fixed for February 13 and the counting of votes is scheduled on February 16.
The by-election would be an interesting one, considering the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said that it will field its candidate, said Tamizhisai Soundararajan, the party's State unit chief.
The temple town is expected to see a three-corner fight, as AIADMK, DMK and BJP are expected to field candidates. As the election date has been announced, the regional parties are expected to start negotiations with the major parties.
