Bartronics launches Smart Cards based products

Aims to consolidate its leadership position in fast growing smart cards market

In a strategic move aimed at consolidating its position in the US$ 62 million smart cards market, Bartronics India Limited (BIL), the country’s leading player in the Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) Technologies Industry, today launched four products based on Smart Cards.

These products were launched in the ongoing Smartcards Expo 2008 in New Delhi today. “We expect most of the software companies working on embedded systems technology to adopt BIL Operating Systems over the next 2-3 years thereby enabling them to participate in the exploding Smart Card Industry in India”, says Mr. Sudhir Rao, the Managing Director of Bartronics India Ltd.

This initiative, which is relatively more strategic in nature, will further consolidate Bartronics’ leadership position in the industry making it India’s first and only end-to-end player in the Smart Cards technology arena.

The Products are: an off-the-shelf generic Smart Cards Operating System. It can be used for applications ranging from financial inclusion, ePurse applications, loyalty applications and mass transit applications.

BIL-BLUE ICE:

BIL-COS: an off-the-shelf Smart Card Operating System to be used in driving license / RC book / National ID and RSBY Applications

BIL-CAMP: an off-the-shelf Smart Card for campus applications

BIL-SIM: a Phase 2+ compliant SIM card for South Asian GSM operators/Service Providers

The four products are targeted towards the embedded application developers / software companies and end users to assist them in developing their applications using Smart Cards. The operating systems come with development kits including smart card readers and sample cards.

According to a recent study, the smart cards industry, growing at a CAGR of almost 30 per cent in India, is set for a boom in the coming years.

Smart Cards are proliferating into newer areas in the country like national ID, access control, driving license and vehicle registration, e-Passport, retail, loyalty, banking and finance, close user group applications, healthcare, transit and fare collection, toll collection and others.
