CPhI/P-MEC/ICSE India 2009 showcase India as a global hub for Pharma.

CPhI/P-MEC/ICSE India 2009, South Asia’s premier pharmaceutical event orgnised by United Business Media, has been a phenomenal success. The event saw several major pharmaceutical companies announcing their expansion plans. The exhibition and conference brought together the who's who of the pharmaceutical industry, and it acted as a catalyst for the exchange of expertise, technical know-how, and innovations.

On the sidelines of the CPhI/P-MEC/ICSE India 2009 exhibition, ACG Worldwide, India and KORSCH AG, Germany, announced their joint venture (JV) to jointly develop and produce tablet compression systems in India. The JV will expand the global footprints of both companies and will benefit from the established worldwide sales channels and offices of both partners.

Foreseeing the bright future for the Indian Pharma industry, SMEs have begun expanding their horizons. Mumbai based pharmaceutical company Schott Kaisha announced its plans to set up a green-field facility in Baroda with an approximate investment of Rs 50 crore by the next financial year end. The company will fund the project though internal accruals and partially through debt activity.

GMP Technical Solutions announced its plans to set up a new GRP clean room facility in Himachal Pradesh to serve the Pharma and biotech industries. The company will be the first in India and second in the world to offer this service, following UK based company MRC.

The hugely successful three-day event at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, had over 770 exhibitors from 20 countries and visitors from 63 countries.

CPhI India and the co-located P-MEC and ICSE are the leading exhibitions for pharmaceutical ingredients and allied industries. P-MEC is the largest exhibition for the pharmaceutical machinery and equipment industry in India. ICSE is India’s fastest growing show for the burgeoning outsourcing and contract services sector. This year’s event has seen the introduction of the Biosimilars conference, which gave delegates insight into India’s Biosimilars regulatory framework, Cost Effective Global Sourcing Strategies for Biosimilar Ingredients, materials and services.

To take this theme further and ride on the success wave of the earlier conferences CPhI/P-MEC/ICSE India 2009 also saw the curtain raiser for the India Pharma Summit. Organized by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt of India in partnership with UBM and FICCI, the conference was attended by experts from the Pharma Industry. The summit identified opportunities, challenges and created a roadmap to achieve consistent growth. The summit covered topics like “India Pharma - Status and Opportunities for Production, Investment & Trade,” Opportunities and Challenges in R&D, Clinical Trials, Pharma Education and Industry Academia Partnership” and Vision – “India the Global Partner.”

SMEs (Small & Medium Enterprises) from the Industry participated in big numbers and availed of the benefits of an international platform.
