Partnership to recruit and train local talent to develop the IT-ITeS industry in Bhutan.
Genpact (NYSE: G), a leader in the globalization of services and technology and a pioneer in managing business processes for companies around the world, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal Government of Bhutan, to train local talent and help in the development and growth of the IT-ITeS industry in the Himalayan Kingdom. The MoU was signed today by Dasho (Dr.) Sonam Tenzin, Secretary, Ministry of Labor & Human Resources, and Dasho Kinley Dorji, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Communications, Royal Government of Bhutan, and Pramod Bhasin, President & CEO of Genpact, on the sidelines of the NASSCOM BPO Summit in Bangalore, India.
The Royal Government of Bhutan will also facilitate Genpact in setting up a ‘state of the art’ operations center in Thimphu as early as 2011.
Under the agreement, Genpact will recruit candidates for its operation centers in India and will work closely with the Ministry of Labor & Human Resources (MoLHR), Department of Information Technology (DIT) and Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) to provide specific training on how to handle transactional work pertaining to a range business processes across industries, including voice, Finance & Accounting and IT Services. A ‘Train the Trainer’ program will also be introduced to help in creating a pipeline of trainers in Bhutan who can in turn impart the programs to local candidates.
Genpact will also partner with the Royal Government of Bhutan to include the curriculum in schools and colleges to develop the talent in the region to meet the future demand for a skilled workforce in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Lyonpo Nandalal Rai, Hon’able Minister of Information & Communication, Royal Government of Bhutan said: “The Royal Government of Bhutan has taken path breaking initiatives to develop IT/ITES Industry. Our climatic conditions coupled with location advantage provide opportunities for Data Centers and our English speaking population presents opportunities in IT Enabled Services. Bhutan in this maiden attempt to promote the Industry is fortunate to partner with Genpact to train & recruit Human Resources from Bhutan and to out-locate to Bhutan in the long term.”
Pramod Bhasin, President and CEO, Genpact said: “We are delighted to partner with the Royal Government of Bhutan in order to pioneer the IT-ITeS industry in Bhutan. Genpact will begin by recruiting, training and developing local talent, and in due course build operations centers to serve clients from Bhutan. With favorable government support, a growing talent pool, surplus green power and good infrastructure, we believe that the nation will soon emerge as a location of choice for the business process management industry.”
Bhutan is the only country in the world which gauges ‘Gross National Happiness’ as a measure of economic progress.
