>Batch of senior and young officers excited to join the corporate world
Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon today organized the valedictory function for the 44 officers who graduated from the 12th Armed Forces Programme being conducted at MDI. Prof. B S Sahay, Director, MDI, Maj. Gen Pramod Behl, Director General Resettlement and Prof. C P Shrimali, Dean (Continuing Education), MDI, were present on the occasion to congratulate the graduating batch.
Prof. B S Sahay lauded the efforts of the officers and emphasized that people in armed forces should utilize their two years paid leave in pursuing further education which expands career opportunities for them after they leave services. “They should do executive MBA during the break and those who have interest in academics should go for doctoral programmes. This will help in bridging the gap between demand and supply for quality academicians in the country. After pursuing additional education the officers have tremendous options for high paying jobs within the services or a high flying career in the corporates.”
“Over the years the programme has been extremely successful which has encouraged the Director General- Resettlement to send more officers for the programme.” Prof. Sahay added.
Addressing the officers Prof. Shrimali said, “It is a very important day for all of us at MDI. The officers have spent six months away from their families for academics. During these six months we have devoted ourselves to nurture their talent and we wish that they triumph in the path of their second careers.”
Speaking on the occasion Maj. Gen Pramod Behl thanked MDI for conducting the course and helping officers to start the second phase of their careers. He acknowledged that there are many people in the services who look for such opportunities. He said “MDI can help them in selecting the industry and career according to their capabilities and expertise.” His message to the graduating batch was that the officers should prove to be good ambassadors of services and shall prove that they can work in the industry with the same dedication and efforts and be successful in their newly attained careers.
Out of the 44 officers, 85% of the batch has been placed in the industry. 6 officers have resumed their duties in the services and MDI is providing placement support to the rest for the next one month even after the completion of the programme.
The placements have been excellent with the highest salary packages going up to Rs. 22 lacs (approx.) and Rs. 10 lacs as minimum salary package offered. Corporates like Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services, ICICI Bank, Larson & Toubro and Bartronics have recruited the officers with Bartronics being the top recruiter hiring 10 officers.
The officers have been offered diverse profiles in sales, marketing, logistics and supply chain, operations, human resource (recruitment), administration, learning and development.
Elated after completed the course, Col. Navinder Narang said “MDI has laid the benchmark for similar programmes being run at the top B-schools in the country. At MDI the methodology of the course is training oriented, the focus is not just limited to the curriculum. Here the faculty has been facilitating the placement process for the officers which is generally not seen in other institutes.”
The course at MDI emphasizes on conceptual understanding and how to relate with real life situations which gives the programme an edge over the rest programmes offered at other institutes in the country.
