SpiceJet soon to commence international operations
Booking opens for Colombo and Kathmandu
First flight to Kathmandu to take-off on October 7, followed by Colombo on October 9
SpiceJet, India’s most preferred low fare airline, announces the commencement of its international operations with its first flights to Kathmandu and Colombo ready to take off in four weeks. The carrier will flag-off its first international flight from Delhi to Kathmandu, Nepal on October 7, 2010. This will be followed shortly by the first flight from Chennai to Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 9, 2010. These flights will mark SpiceJet’s foray into the international skies. Bookings for both Kathmandu and Colombo are now open.
The base fare on the Chennai-Colombo route begins from Rs. 999(PSF, UDF, Fuel Charge & Govt. taxes extra) and that for New Delhi- Kathmandu route begins from Rs. 1499(PSF, UDF, fuel charges & Govt. taxes extra). SpiceJet will fly its New Generation Boeing 737-800 (189 seater) aircraft on these routes. Fares being offered by SpiceJet on these routes are arguably the most competitive in the industry.

SpiceJet reported its first annual profit at the end of FY09-10 with a net annual profit of Rs 61.4 crore. For the first quarter of FY10-11, the airlines has continued to be profitable and reported a profit of Rs.55.2 crore. SpiceJet has also announced an order of 30 Boeing which will take SpiceJet’s fleet size to 58 planes over the next few years.
