Star News director delivers lecture on Role of media at Amity

A lecture on “Role of media and its relation with Law” by Dr. Anil Singh, Executive Director, Star News was organized by Amity Law School (ALS) for its students at Amity University Campus, Sector – 125, Noida.

Presenting his welcome address Maj. Gen Nilendra Kumar, Director, ALS, Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) informed the audience about Dr. Anil Singh’s deep insight and background of International Relations (IR) who has written two very successful and informative research books on IR.

Delivering his lecture Dr. Singh said “Media is a mirror to the society that reflects the real picture of the socio – political condition of a nation. In India Media invariably has a constructive role in nation building right from pre independence era till date. With the advent of electronic media television assumed greater responsibilities to create awareness in people with respect to politics, economy, legislation, parliament, judiciary, society and culture”.

He added “Media is the fourth pillar of democracy that transports the voice of the common people to the power circle. In the recent times, Media has proven to be an active operator in the legal cases like ‘Arushi Talwar murder case’, ‘Jessica Lall murder case’ etc."

Sharing his views on the career scopes born out of the kinship between media and law, Mr. Singh informed the Law students of Amity that both electronic and print media require legal correspondents to run the legal programmes and legal columns respectively and suggested it to be a good opportunity for those students with a Law background who may not wish to join the judicial system as a career option.

The lecture was followed by an vivid interactive session between Mr. Singh, the students, and faculty members of ALS wherein topics like media activism, TRP, Breaking News etc were discussed.
