STEER's Omega 40H enables 900 kg/hr output for 40% talc filled PP

STEER, a globally acknowledged force in polymer processing machinery today announced that a world record output of 900 kg/hour has been achieved with a formulation containing 40% talc in Polypropylene during melt compounding on the co-rotating intermeshing Omega H-40 twin screw extruder. This level of output with ultrafine talc for 40mm twin extruders was viewed in the technical community as an insurmountable barrier, a milestone that has never been crossed. Speaking on this achievement, Dr. Babu Padmanabhan, Founder & Managing Director of STEER remarked “Work on this technological breakthrough has been underway at STEER’s Application Development Centre in Bangalore for a while and today we have demonstrated a big breakthrough. “In fact, this achievement by STEER can be considered historic in the industry. An analogy to explain its magnitude would be the first aircraft breaking the sound barrier or Roger Bannister breaking the four minute barrier in his 1954 mile-run.” he added.

This tour de force has been achieved through STEER’s continued and dedicated efforts towards creating technology to overcome existing challenges. STEER’s next generation Extruder Processing Zone (EPZ) is akin to a personal computer’s newest generation CPU with a process capability to achieve more in newer and complex applications.

“It is possible to effectively control the nature of work done in the extruder by achieving the required shear rates, shear rate uniformity, residence time and narrow residence time distribution with the ‘fractional lobed’ geometry designed by STEER. STEER’s Shovel intake elements provide multifold increase in intake capacity improving most feed limited applications that use low bulk density and slippery ingredients.” said Dr. Babu Padmanabhan.
