Yash Birla Group acquires near 100% in Birla Kerala Vaidyashala JV

>Strengthening its presence in the health & wellness segment, the Yash Birla Group (YBG) is aggressively expanding its wings to make the most of this blossoming sector. The group that was earlier into a 50:50 joint venture with Birla Kerala Vaidyashala (BKV) has successfully acquired the remaining 48% stake in BKV leaving 1% for the promoters i.e. the M/S Kurup family. The sole aim of this alliance was to get together and create a naturally healthy world through mind & body enriching spas.

Since its inception in 2008, BKV today has more than 40 ayurvedic spa centres across key cities in India. Specialists in therapeutic massages and treatments for lifestyle disorders, BKV has gained much prominence in the recent past. The company under the leadership of Mr. N Venkat is also planning to go international by launching ayurvedic medspa centres in UAE, Gulf region, South East Asia.

After this acquisition, the Yash Birla Group aims to grow its healthcare arm through a strategic phase wise 5 yr plan. Starting with expansion of centres through franchise route in major cities of India against vis-à-vis four cities Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore & Kerala. In phase 2, strengthen medical & clinical ayurveda treatments and increase share of business from ailments; aggressive expansion strategy in Middle East and in the final phase in the next 3 years –to have 100 centers in India as well as abroad.

Expressing his enthusiasm Mr. N Venkat, CEO, Birla Wellness of the Yash Birla Group said, “This acquisition marks yet another milestone in our foray into the Ayurvedic healthcare and wellness industry. Apart from the planned geographical expansion, we are also looking to capitalize on the growing demand for quality solutions on mental and bodily wellness. The balance stake acquisition of BKV will not only allow us to create a niche within the industry and expand our current portfolio but also showcase our absolute commitment to the project.
