Bhandarkar says he had expected the film, which is loosely based on the reality behind the world of glitz and glamour, will get an A certificate.
"As expected got a "A" certificate from the censor board. Countdown begins for the launch of the poster and promo of Heroine," Bhandarkar posted on his Twitter page.
The movie also stars Arjun Rampal and is expected to hit the theatres on September 14.
Bhandarkar is famous for his reality inspired films like "Chandni Bar", "Page 3", "Satta", "Corporate" and "Fashion".
"Heroine" earlier ran into trouble when the then leading lady Aishwarya Rai Bachchan backed out of the project due to her pregnancy after shooting some scenes.
Bhandarkar later roped in Kareena for the role.
