'Oh My God' was based on a Gujarati play 'Kanji Virudh (vs) Kanji'. Both the film and the play have garnered a lot of appreciation for its content. Now Mandalia is working on a script from his play 'Chini Mini'.

"This film is again from a play of mine with Vipul Mehta called 'Chini Mini'. It's about a couple who deliver twin daughters, suffering from thalassemia. Its about the struggle of parents. It is a heart wrenching story," Mandalia told PTI.

Vipul, who had directed the play, will wield the megaphone for the film as well.

"When we were making this play... A emotional one, the producers were initially not keen on backing it. But it is the plot that they loved it. When the play was out everyone loved it. The play was successful," Mandalia said.

The film will be set up in 1990 in the backdrop of Banaras and will go on floors next year.

"To translate a play into a film is a task, it is a challenge. While making a film we need to change quite a few things, add new elements. It was Vipul and my idea to change it into a film," Mandalia said.

Mandalia is planning to rope in actor R Madhavan for the film but says its too early to talk about casting.

'Oh My God' had Paresh Rawal playing the role of an atheist while Akshay Kumar was seen in a modern day avatar of lord Krishna. The film a satire on organised religion which released on September 28 is doing well at the box office.

"I am happy that the film has got a good response. Things have changed after 'Oh My God'.. I think I have got better standing now after the release of the film. I am working on two-three ideas," Mandalia said.
