1.42 lakh deaths registered in Delhi during 2016: Report

As many as 1.42 lakh deaths were registered in Delhi during 2016, a rise of more than 13 per cent from the corresponding figure the year before, according to a report released by the city government today.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said 1.25 lakh deaths were registered in 2015.
"The average number of deaths registered per day in Delhi works out to be 387 during the year 2016," says the Annual Report on Registration of Births and Deaths in Delhi 2016.
"The death rate per thousand population works out to be 7.61 during the year 2016. About 64 per cent of the total deaths were reported by hospitals and remaining 36 were domiciliary deaths," he added, quoting from the report.
However, the infant mortality rate per thousand live births has decreased from 23.25 in 2015 to 21.35 in 2016, Sisodia said.
The deputy chief minister also pointed out that the sex ratio at birth has increased from 898 in 2015 to 902 in the last year.
The number of births registered in Delhi during 2016 was 3,79,161 as compared to 3,74,012 during 2015 and 3,73,693 during 2014.
Out of 3,79161 total registered births in 2016, 52.6 per cent were male 47.4 per cent female. The birth rate works out to be 20.38 per thousand population during 2016 as against 20.50 during 2015, according to the report.
Out of the total registered births in Delhi during 2016, 34.57 per cent were registered in areas falling under the NDMC, 31.07 per cent under the SDMC and 21.04 per cent under the EDMC.
