An employee of a private ground handling firm has been held at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here for allegedly aiding the smuggling of a 1.5 kg gold bar from Dubai.
The incident occurred in the wee hours today when a CISF surveillance team spotted a passenger who had just arrived from Dubai and was moving towards a bathroom in the terminal area.
"There was prior intelligence input about the passenger and as officials tracked his movements, it was seen he was moving suspiciously. After sometime, the passenger left the washroom in a hurry," a senior CISF officer said.
The officials of the force later recovered a 1.5 kg gold bar, wrapped in a packet, lying unattended in the bathroom.
"The CCTV footage showed that the passenger was in touch with a ground handling firm's employee Ansar and he was later detained," the officer said.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) handed over the seized gold bar and Ansar to Customs authorities, the officer said.
