The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Tarai (25) of Sendhapur village. The seriously injured, identified as Ajay Jata (40) of Daipur village, has been admitted to the SCB Medical college and Hospital in Cuttack, where his condition was stated to be critical.
The incident took place while they were working in the Maulaganj Hill-2 stone quarry along with other workers.
Police said though the Maulaganj Hill has not been leased out to anyone for stone quarrying as it is located in the protected reserve forest area under Cuttack Forest division, some people undertook the activities illegally.
No FIR has been so far filed in this connection, said J P Panda, Inspector In-charge of Jenapur police station.
