Just about 11 lakh workers have activated their universal PF account numbers (UANs) so far even as retirement fund body EPFO readied nearly 1.1 crore portable PF accounts numbers under the new scheme.
A senior official said that the main reasons for lower number of portable PF account number activations is that a large number of workers in the organised sector are not very tech savvy.
As per Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) data, so far made 1.09 crore UANs are ready for activation by its members.
The official said the EPFO is likely to bring out an office order for its over 120 field offices to sensitise the employers to make all processed UANs operation by their workers.
According to him, these portable PF account numbers are required to be activated by the employees themselves on the members' portal for UAN.
He further said that now the employers need to help the workers to activate their account in view of their employees' technological handicap to operate such accounts online.
At present, the Know-Your-Customer details of as many as 3.81 crore members have been uploaded by the employers. However, about 1.52 crore subscribers' KYC details were attested by using digital signatures.
In the present scenario, EPFO has completed the process of making UAN operational for 1.09 crore workers. Now these portable PF account numbers can be activated by members at UAN web portal.
The ambitious scheme to provide UAN to EPFO subscribers is one of the welfare programmes which would be launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow.
The EPFO had issued 4.17 crore UANs to employers at the end of July and started to process of seeding those accounts with KYCs including bank account, Aadhaar and PAN.
The official said UAN will give the facility of collation of accounts, viewing of updated accounts as well as downloading the same and collation of pensionable service.
The UAN would be portable throughout the working career of members and can be used anywhere in India. Thus, workers in organised sector would not need to apply for transfer of PF account claim on changing jobs.
