12.5 kgs of charas, worth Rs 2.5 crore, seized in Bihar

The Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) has recovered a huge quantity of charas, worth around Rs 2.5 crore in the international market, near the Indo-Nepal border in West Champaran district, an official said today.
"About 12.5 kg of charas, worth Rs 2.5 crore, was seized near the Inarva border out post late last night. Although the smugglers were spotted by SSB personnel, they fled dropping the sack containing the narcotic", Deputy Commandant, 44th Battalion SSB, Ajay Kumar Rajak, said.
He said "we had received information that some narcotics were being smuggled into the Indian territory along the Don Canal. Accordingly, Assistant Commandant Rajiv Kumar was directed to conduct a search in the area. His team spotted some persons carrying a sack".

"However, the smugglers somehow sensed the presence of the SSB personnel nearby and they ran away leaving the sack behind. The sack contained 12.5 kgs of charas.
The contraband has been handed over to Inarwa police. Further investigations are on, Rajak said.
