small lanes, 135 new Gypsy vehicles, valued at Rs 8.55 crore were formally inducted into the state police department by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa here today.
The addition of these vehicles would supplement the existing police patrol, which has 225 Toyota Innovas, 135 Mahindra Bolero, 403 two-wheelers, an official release said.
Jayalalithaa had made an announcement in the assembly that 135 vehicles would be presented to police. In continuation with that, she flagged off the Gypsy vehicles at a function in the Secretariat.
The vehicles are fitted with electronic display boards and modern communication devices, the release said.
