14 arrested in western UP with smuggled liquor

As many as 14 liquor smugglers have been arrested from different areas in western Uttar Pradesh and 1,147 bottles of smuggled liquor were seized from them, a senior official said today.
"To check liquor smuggling, we conduct joint operations with police. We also coordinate with neighbouring districts in western Uttar Pradesh," District Excise Officer Kuldeep Yadav said today.
"Police arrested two liquor smugglers, Amit and Sunder, from Sector 108 here last night and seized 192 bottles of foreign liquor and 139 bottles of country liquor," Yadav said.
"Sector 49 Police also arrested two liquor smugglers last night. They were identified as Omkar and Rajinder. A total of 68 bottles of smuggled foreign liquor were seized from them," Yadav said.
"Dankaur Police arrested two liquor smugglers Kalu and Lakhbir and seized 250 bottles of smuggled country liquor," he said.
In Ghaziabad, one liquor smuggler was arrested and 170 bottles of smuggled liquor seized.
In Bagpat, one liquor smuggler was arrested from Sihani Gate area and 91 bottles were seized.
In Saharanpur, three liquor smugglers were arrested and 56 bottles were seized.
In Hapur, three liquor smugglers were arrested and 181 bottles of smuggled liquor were seized.
As liquor rates in Haryana are cheaper by 30 to 50 per cent than in Uttar Pradesh, liquor mafias smuggle liquor from Haryana into Noida and Greater Noida.
