150 Mumbai roads being repaired, Aaditya Thackeray informs

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had started repairing 150 roads in the city and the repairing of another 150 roads would be taken up by the end of this month, Shiv Sena youth wing chief Aaditya Thackeray informed today.
Shiv Sena-BJP ruled BMC came under fire this monsoon for the poor condition of roads in the megapolis.
Aaditya tweeted, "BMC has taken up repairs of 150 roads across the city, more to come with traffic police permissions."
"Since 2013, large number of roads have been repaired, 41 utilities been ducted (sic) and made paver-block free. The number of potholes has lowered since 2012 considerably and will only be eradicated with repairs of roads across the city," Aaditya said in his statement attached to his tweet.

He also pointed out that Mumbai being a vast city with heavy traffic, not all roads can be dug up (for repair) at the same time, and more roads will be taken up for repair with the cooperation and permission of the traffic police.
To ensure further public participation, BMC had made it mandatory for all road work zones to display name of the contractor, time period for work and type of work, he said, and added that if there were issues pertaining to these roads, citizens can report them on the number 1916.

The Sena leader also pointed out that not all the roads in the city was BMC's responsibility.

"The Western Express Highway and roads under special planning authority do not come in the jurisdiction of BMC and it will put out a list of that (such roads) soon," he said.
As the civic elections are drawing near, opposition parties, especially MNS and Congress, have been hitting out at the ruling Shiv Sena and BJP over the pothole-ridden roads.
On October 5, MNS corporators Sandeep Deshpande and Santosh Dhuri forced the chief engineer of road department to hold a placard on which it was written, "I am responsible for these potholes."
Following which a criminal case was filed against the two corporators and now they are out on bail.
