Authorities cracked the whip on 153 MBBS students in Madhya Pradesh, some of whom have passed out, for allegedly using "unfair means" to clear Pre-Medical Tests (PMT) in the state, suspending those who are still studying.
The state's Medical Education Director Dr S S Khushwaha said today all the 153 students had gained admissions to MBBS coursse in three medical colleges between 2006 and 2012.
Police have registered FIRs against them for their alleged involvement in adopting unfair practices to clear the tests, he said.
Out of 153 students, 97 students belonged to Gajra Raje Medical College, Gwalior, who had enrolled for the course between 2006 and 2010; 33 students of Shyam Shah Medical College, Rewa, who had taken admission between 2006 and 2012; and 23 students of Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar, who had enrolled in 2010.
The students were suspended by the deans of three medical colleges.
Some of the students who have been accused of using unfair menas have already passed out and even moved out of the state while there were some who are pursuing their post-graduate examinations in the state.
Asked what would be the fate of these students, officials said steps would be taken to declare the MBBS degrees secured by them as null and void.
Prior to this, a total of 87 students from the Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal; Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore and Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College were suspended for allegedly adopting fraudulent means to crack the PMT examination.
The suspended students of the Gwalior Medical College yesterday launched an agitation against the administration terming action taken against them as "one-sided".
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, meanwhile, admitted that 1,000 out of the over 1.47 lakh appointments and selections made by MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) since 2007 were found to be fake.
He assured the state Assembly that during the probe, whosoever is found guilty will not be spared irrespective of his/her position.
"The scam was unearthed in 2009 and we immediately ordered a probe into it and asked the concerned authorities to look into it (selections/ appointments) since 2006. So far, 1,000 out of 1.47 lakh appointments and selections made by MPPEB have been found to be fake," Chouhan said replying to a discussion on the Motion of Thanks in the state Assembly on the Governor's address.
