16 candidates file nomination in Meghalaya

Sixteen candidates including five sitting MLAs filed their papers today, the third day of filing nomination for the February 27 Megahalaya Assembly election, Chief Electoral Officer, F R Kharkongor said.
The last date for filling of nomination for the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly is February 7.
Congress MLA K C Khyriem filed his nomination papers from Mawphlang constituency in East Khasi Hills district, Hill State Peoples Democratic Party MLA Diostarness Jyndiang from Nongstoin and K P Pangniang from Rambrai, Independent MLAs Rophul S Marak and Samuel Sangma also filed their papers, Kharkongor told PTI.
The others include Evalyni Kharbani (IND) and Zachary Shadap (Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement) who will contest from Mawhati constituency in Ri-bhoi district.
United Democratic Party candidate Donkupar Sumer filed his nomination papers for Umsning constituency in Ri-Bhoi district, he said.
The others include Welborn Bynnud(IND) from Shella in East Khasi Hills district, Pios Kurbah (INC) to contest from Mawthadraishan.
John Dandaly Sangma of NCP filed his papers from Ranikor, Dr Bestondar C Lyngodh (Ind) from Mawkyrwat.
