2,07,180 candidates eligible for Odisha Panchayat polls

As many as 2,07,180 candidates have become eligible to participate in the three-tier gram panchayat elections, polling for which will be held in five phases from February 13.
After the scrutiny of nomination papers on January 18, the State Election Commission (SEC) today published the total eligible panchayat poll candidate as well as names of eligible ward members, sarpanch candidates, panchayat samiti members as well as Zilla Parishad members.
Of the total eligible 2,07,180 candidates, 1,46,662 have qualified for ward members, 31,086 sarpanchs, 25,714 panchayat samiti members and the number of Zilla Parishad member aspirants are 3,718.
"The list has been declared after verification. The candidates may withdraw their nominations by January 21," a SEC official said.
