2.5 kg of poppy recovered from truck, driver flees

The police claimed to have recovered 2.5 kg of poppy from a truck on the Jammu-Pathankot highway in the Kathua district, but the driver managed to flee leaving behind the vehicle.
Following a tip off, an alert team was waiting for the vehicle at a check point in the Lakhanpur area, a police officer said.
However, the driver stopped the truck some distance away and fled, he claimed.
The police recovered 2.5 kg of poppy from truck which was also seized, he said adding that a case has been registered in this regard.
