The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has granted permission to over 2,500 persons for building houses that were damaged in the September floods last year.
"The SMC till February 16 has granted building permissions in 2,508 cases out of 3,494 applications received by them," an official spokesman said here today.
The remainging 986 cases were being processed, he said.
"As far as online applications are concerned, out of 1,002 cases received by the SMC, 587 cases have been disposed off so far while 415 are under process," he said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has directed the SMC Commissioner to issue a circular reiterating the details of the process to be followed and the specific documentation required for seeking grant of building permission for flood affected buildings, the spokesman said.
"These directions were issued after the Governor reviewed the status of disposal of building permission cases," he said.
On January 17, during meetings at Srinagar to review the administration of relief and rehabilitation measures for flood affected people, the Governor had directed SMC to immediately streamline the process of granting building permissions.
The Governor had also directed for accelerating the drive for removal of encroachments and illegal structures from the water bodies and the state owned lands, the spokesman said.
"The action taken by SMC is being reviewed separately next week," he said.
