"The accused, Shahid (24) and Umar (25), were arrested by the police in the early hours of April 3 and five cows have been recovered," said DCP Monika Bhardwaj.
A country-made pistol and 10 live cartridges have been recovered from the accused.
Based on a tip-off, a team zeroed in on a tempo carrying cows near Kesho Pur Nala. But the occupants refused to stop and sped towards Raghubir Nagar, said the officer.
Further when the tempo reached Pacific Mall it hit a police barricade and then sped towards Khyala despite being told to stop, Bhardwaj said.
Shahid and Umar who tried to flee were nabbed, the officer added.
All the cows have been sent to Shri Krishan Gaushala.
