2 drowned in Subarnarekha Irrigation Project canal

Two persons - a youth and his uncle - were drowned in Subarnarekha Irrigation Project (SRIP) Main Canal in Chandua area, a police officer said today.
The bodies of Kanda Bhakta (45) and Mangulu Bhakta(23) of Bedha village were fished out of water by fire brigade personnel this morning, the officer said.
The duo were missing since last evening, Chandua Police Station IIC Dhiresh Kumar Das.
While Mangulu went missing in strong canal waters last evening while bathing, his uncle Kanda later dived into the canal water for rescuing his nephew but was also swept in the strong tides, Das said.

The project authorities had released water in SRIP left main canal from Jambhira reservoir two days before for agricultural need.
