Two alleged drug traffickers have been arrested and 14 kilogram of Pseudoephedrine, a party drug worth Rs 70 lakh, was recovered from the duo.
The two accused, identified as Ramveer (39) and his brother-in-law Amit Kumar (35), both residents of Ghaziabad, UP, were arrested by a team of Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Saturday after it received a tip-off, police said.
"We had got information that Ramvir and his brother -in-law Amit Kumar are involved in supply of Pseudoephedrine in Ghaziabad and Delhi," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
Police further learnt that one Darshan would come near the bus stand under Geeta Colony flyover, outer Ring Road, on Saturday between 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM along with a consignment of the drug for delivery to one of his contacts. A trap was laid at around 4:40 PM and a white car arrived on the spot from Jamuna Bazar side, he said.
The car's driver was identified as Ramvir who waited near the bus stand. After about 10 minutes, one XUV vehicle also arrived and its driver was identified as Amit Kumar.
The driver of the XUV vehicle came out with a bag and handed it over to Ramvir who checked the bag and clasped the zip of the bag. As the duo proceeded to return, they were apprehended by the police.
Fourteen kg micro-crystal Pseudo-ephedrine was recovered from the bag possessed by Ramvir, following which a case under NDPS Act was registered and the duo were arrested.
The value of the recovered Pseudoephedrine is Rs 70 lakh in the international market, police said.
During interrogation, it was found out that they came in contact with one Mayank Aggarwal and started purchasing pseudoephedrine from him and supplyied it further.
"Mayank Aggarwal and his wife were arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau and a huge quantity of Pseudoephedrine and other drugs were recovered from his possession. Ramveer and Amit had been to the spot to deliver Pseudoephedrine to one of their contacts but were caught," said Yadav.
The substance has emerged as the new party drug in Southeast Asia and recently large consignments have been caught by security agencies in India.
"A trend has emerged that the drug is sourced in the form of medicines from pharma companies in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand by chemists and through pilferage and sent to Northeast India. From here, it is trafficked to countries like Myanmar and Thailand where it is processed and turned into party drug," said a senior police official.
In 2006, the duo had opened their medical firm 'IS Pharma' at C-106, Lohia Nagar, Ghaziabad, UP in partnership where they came in contact with Aggarwal and started these illegal activities, police said.
