2 held with fake currency escape from lock-up in Gujarat

Two persons from West Bengal, who were arrested here with fake currency notes of face value of Rs 1.15 lakh, escaped from police lock-up today, police said.
The accused - Mohammead Anjarul Haq and Mohammed Ansari from Malda district in West Bengal were apprehended on December 20 from Bajwa area and were remanded in 11-day police custody by a local court.
The duo were lodged at Jawaharnagar police station.
"The accused escaped after a police constable, who was on duty, opened the lock-up on their request for allowing them to go for nature's call," D J Patel, Joint Commissioner of Police, Vadodara told PTI.
"The special operation group (SOG) had arrested them on Sunday (December 20) while they were exchanging the fake currency notes with face value of Rs 1.15 lakh in a market at Bajwa village. The accused were in police custody for 11 days," he said.
"We have launched a manhunt. Police was supposed to take them to Malda for investigations today. Policemen responsible for this incident will be suspended," Patel added.
