A court in Muscat yesterday sentenced former managing director of Galfar Engineering, P Mohammad Ali and an unnamed manager to 15 years in jail in five cases of bribing the oil company's officials. They were among seven persons convicted and sent to jail, the Times of Oman reported today.
Five Omani nationals from the oil firm have also been jailed. Ali will have to pay 1.774 million Omani rials (about (USD 4.61 million) and the manager 534,000 rials as fines.
A native of Kerala, Ali founded Galfar, one of Oman's biggest construction companies.
