The cleaner of the truck, and the pedestrian who suddenly came in front of the truck while trying to cross the road, were killed in the incident, they said.
Four occupants of the truck -- the driver and three labourers -- were injured in the accident and were recuperating at hospitals, said the police.
The truck cleaner has been identified as Ravi, 28, and the pedestrian's whereabouts were yet to be ascertained, police said.
Pawan, an injured labourer, said that the truck driver lost
control while trying to save the pedestrian who came on the road all of a sudden and also because as the vehicle was speeding.
"The truck was being driven at a high speed by Anil who belongs to my village. Suddenly he noticed a man crossing the road and steered the truck to the right to avoid hitting him. That led to him losing control," he said in his police complaint.
