The mishap occurred on the Kukshi-Alirajpur road when the victims were returning to the native place from Rajasthan after visiting the bereaved family of their relative, police said.
Later, infuriated villagers chased the truck and set it ablaze, Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Sohanpal Singh said, the truck driver escaped from the spot after angry villagers forced the carrier to stop about a km away from the accident site.
The injured have been referred to Barwani district hospital for treatment.
The fire was doused after nearly three hours after which the truck was lifted by a crane and parked on the roadside.
Efforts are on to nab the truck driver, he said, adding a case has been registered in this regard.
