The girls were residents of Jarigaon village under the jurisdiction of Binjharpur police station.
The incident happened when Chinki Das (14) and Mili Das (12) were bathing in the Kharasrota river, a police officer said.
The mishap took place at 11 am, the officer said.
They were at the village bathing ghat located along the banks of the river. They lost their balance and fell into the deep water, the police officer said.
The girls were students of Banka Behari Uccha Bidyalaya at Jarigaon.
The bodies were not traced till last reports came in.
