District Superintendent of Police Shiladitya Chetia said the police received information about two bodies being found in Ratanpur area along the disputed site of the border and a joint operation was launched by CRPF, Assam Police and Nagaland Police in the presence of the border magistrates of both the states.
The decomposed bodies were identified as those of 40-year -old Rovert Tasso and 35-year-old Bhulu Khandelwal, who worked in a rubber plantation owned by a person from Nagaland.
Chetia said the plantation was on the hills in Nagaland side of the border while the workers lived on the foot-hills which fell on the Assam side.
The violence was followed by large-scale protests in Golaghat district with roads being blocked and subsequently the police had to fire to disperse a mob which led to the killing of three persons and imposition of curfew in the district.
The situation has improved gradually since then though night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am remained in force to prevent any untoward incident.
